Leave No One Behind: A Youth Hearing for the 2023 Voluntary National Review
Ahead of Tanzania’s second Voluntary National Review (VNR) on the Sustainable Development Goals, Mulika Tanzania co-convened a two-day "Leave No One Behind" hearing with UNA Tanzania, the Africa Philanthropic Foundation and Restless Development. Fifty-four youth-led organisations from the mainland and Zanzibar — 24 young women and 30 young men — took part.
Participants reflected on lessons from the 2019 VNR process and split into focus groups spanning business investment, skills development, economic empowerment, the digital economy, decision-making and sexual reproductive health rights, producing recommendations for government and civil society on more inclusive, meaningful youth participation.
The input feeds into Tanzania’s national VNR report and a companion National Youth Report, both presented at the UN High-Level Political Forum in New York in July 2023 — giving young Tanzanians a direct line into how the country reports progress on the 2030 Agenda.
