The National Youth CSOs Election Consortium Is Formed
Following consultations with 50 youth-led and youth-serving organisations across mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar, the National Youth CSOs Election Consortium was formed to unite grassroots and national youth networks around a shared election agenda.
Focus group discussions with communities surfaced five priority areas ahead of the general election: education, health (including sexual and reproductive health and rights), economic empowerment and inclusion, and youth participation in decision-making. The Tanzania Higher Learning Institutions Students Organisation (TAHLISO) joined as mobilising partner for students and colleges.
The Consortium — co-led by TYVA, UNA Tanzania, Mulika Tanzania, YUNA, AfriYAN Tanzania and PLPDF — went on to develop the Tanzania Youth Manifesto 2019 through nationwide consultations, and worked directly with the National Electoral Commission to keep the youth agenda visible in the run-up to the election.
